Repo Man formed in the winter of 2018 but the band’s origin story is literally decades old. Barry and Patrick played together in Butler, PA’s first hardcore punk band Prepared To Die, which was formed two years earlier by Jeff Everton, Rich Chapla, Rick Leventhal and Vince Evans. Patrick replaced Vince on drums and Barry became the band’s third bassist after Jeff left the band. Together with Mark Palladino’s screaming metal leads and vocalist Jim Lawless Prepared To Die were regulars at The Electric Banana in 1987. PTD was even proclaimed “the future of Pittsburgh hardcore” by reigning kings Half-Life!
Fast forward to November, 2018. “Hey Pat, it’s Barry. Any interest in forming a old school punk cover band? I’ve got a singer/guitarist who’s interested”.
It took Patrick all of 10 seconds to register what Barry just said before a hearty “fuck YES”!
And Repo Man was born.
The three initially tried to focus on punk classics from the 70s and 80s but soon began to incorporate more recent and diverse material. The enthusiastic response from the early gigs told the boys that they were on to something. “Holy shit – you play Fugazi!!! I haven’t heard that in years!”
But something was missing. Something was holding the band back. The answer came in the form of fresh faced Tim Bartley who was only 19 when he joined the “old men” in 2020. The missing puzzle piece, the missing link was found!
With Tim on board Repo Man embraced it’s punk and alternative foundations while adding material from Johnny Cash, Joe Jackson, The Monkees and even The Beatles. Shows are high energy and fast paced affairs leaving audiences cheering for more!
Though based in Butler, PA, Repo Man has played across the Commonwealth with a goal of playing more regularly in Pittsburgh. The boys are regularly featured at venues in Butler and Beaver where they have established themselves as fan favorites. With venues re-opening and life getting “back to normal” Repo Man plans to make 2022 “our year”!
